Tell the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) that all women should have access to more affordable, generic emergency contraception (EC)!
We celebrated and praised the recent FDA decision to approve a one pill version of EC for sale on store shelves without age or point-of-sale restrictions. It came after a decade of political interference with scientific decision-making that prevented women from being able to get timely access to this safe and effective contraceptive option.
But we’re disappointed that now, instead of politics trumping science, the agency is putting business interests ahead of science and women’s health. The FDA announced that it would maintain the medically unnecessary age restrictions on generic EC, by giving one company exclusive rights to sell directly from the drug store shelf without age restrictions for three years.
Add your name to mine on this letter urging FDA Commissioner Peggy Hamburg to make affordable, generic EC available over the counter, without restrictions!
