Lower rates in Minnesota

You can help lower prison phone rates in Minnesota!

Currently, the Minnesota Department of Corrections (DOC) is in the process of re-bidding or renewing/extending its prison phone contract. The DOC receives a 59% commission (kickback) on revenue generated from phone calls made by prisoners, which results in excessively high rates.

The FCC voted in August 2013 to cap the rates for long distance prison phone calls, but that order does not apply to in-state calls (an estimated 85% of prison phone calls are in-state). This is an opportunity to ask the DOC to ensure its new prison phone contract is based on the lowest cost to those who pay for the calls - mostly prisoners' families.
