Students Found Guilty of "Violence" for Satirical Flyer

Colorado College earned the dubious distinction of being placed on FIRE's Red Alert list because of its disregard for protected speech, obvious display of double standards, and lack of a fair judicial process. After the "Feminist and Gender Studies Interns" distributed a flyer called "The Monthly Rag," two students created and distributed a parody flyer called "The Monthly Bag" under the pseudonym "The Coalition of Some Dudes." The flyer included references to "tough guy wisdom," "chainsaw etiquette," and the shooting range of a sniper rifle. After then-President Richard Celeste denounced the flyers and demanded the students come forward, the two students were forced to endure a kangaroo court hearing before being found guilty of violating the college’s policy against “violence,” in part due to their flyer’s “juxtaposition of weaponry and sexuality.”
