Giving the World's Citizens a Voice

Giving the World's Citizens a Voice

There is a huge democratic deficit in the world today, creating a gap between the world we have and the world most people really want. The UN is distracted by national agendas and influenced heavily by the interests of corporations. As a result, the world's citizens have little influence on decisions made at institutions such as the UN, the IMF, the WTO, the World Bank, the G20 or the G8.

Who should speak for the people of the world? The creation of a UN Parliamentary Network would allow citizens and other groups not normally represented in the UN a chance to have their voices heard at the international level. The implementation of a world parliament would foster the accountability, diversity, and multilateralism needed to address global issues effectively. We can create a more representative, democratic UN that truly transcends national borders.

Vocalizing your support is the first step in having our voices heard. The UN Parliamentary Assembly will not become a reality without the support of citizens and parliamentarians at various levels. We must gain widespread support, particularly from our representatives in Congress, if we wish to see this body take shape.

Take the first step toward a more democratic world by signing this petition today. By doing so, you will also sign up to receive updates on how Citizens for Global Solutions membesr can participate in the Global Week of Action for a World Parliament in October.
