More than 60,000 Hamilton County residents live in food deserts and face obstacles that leave them without access to fresh, healthy food. Join Junior League of Chattanooga for the SNAP Challenge and experience firsthand the struggle to obtain adequate food that is faced by millions of low-income Americans every day. For one week, we'll live on $4.40 per day worth of food – the average food stamp benefit for residents of Tennessee. See what it's like to make food shopping choices on a limited budget and learn how difficult it is to avoid hunger, afford nutritious foods, and stay healthy without adequate resources. While living on a food stamp budget for just a week cannot come close to the struggles encountered by low-income families every single day, it will give us a new perspective and greater understanding. Join the Junior League of Chattanooga to help make a difference for the more than 60,000 men, women and children in Hamilton County who experience this every day of their lives.
